Comprehensive Plan Draft Amendments and Updates
Fall 2024 -- The Planning Commission is reviewing Chapter 5 (Agricultural, Natural, and Cultural Resources) of the Manitowish Waters Comprehensive Plan with an eye toward adding language relating to farmland preservation. The 2009 Wisconsin Working Lands Initiative, enacted as WI Act 28, repealed and recreated the original 1977 Wisconsin Farmland Preservation Program and related tax credits. Wisconsin's Farmland Preservation Program (FPP) provides tools and incentives to help and encourage farmers and local governments to responsibly resist "sprawl", the development and fragmentation of agricultural lands that have been converted to other uses not in accordance with local municipal land use planning. A further goal is to minimize land use conflicts.
