Notice of Public Hearing

January 7, 2025 at 6:00 P.M.

CLASS 1 NOTICE as required by WI Statute 66.1001(4)(d) is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be conducted by the Manitowish Waters Planning Commission on January 7, 2025 beginning at 6:00 PM at the Manitowish Waters Community Center, located at 5733 Airport Road, Manitowish Waters, WI.  The purpose of the public hearing is to accept public comments on the Manitowish Waters Planning Commission’s proposed amendments to Chapter 5 of the Town of Manitowish Waters Comprehensive Plan, hereafter called the “Comprehensive Plan”.

Chapter 5 of the Comprehensive Plan concerns Agricultural, Natural and Cultural Resources.  The amendments add language pertaining to farmland preservation and the 2009 Wisconsin Working Lands Initiative, administered as the Farmland Preservation Program.  The Program provides tools and incentives to help and encourage farmers and local governments to resist the fragmentation of agricultural lands and development into uses not in accordance with local land use planning.

Beginning December 6, 2024, the public may review copies of the proposed amended language to Chapter 5 of the Comprehensive Plan at the Zoning Office in the Airport Terminal Building during regular zoning office hours.  The recommended language may also be found on the Town of Manitowish Waters web site https://mwtown.gov on the “Comprehensive Plan Draft Amendments and Updates” page.  Contact Vincent Hoehn at mwzoning@mwtown.gov if you required additional information.

During the Public Hearing, the public is invited to speak on the proposed amendments to Chapter 5.  Written comments may be submitted until the conclusion of the Public Hearing and will become part of the record.  Comments may be emailed to mwzoning@mwtown.gov or mailed to Town of Manitowish Waters, PO Box 267, Manitowish Waters, WI 54545. The Public Hearing shall be closed when all interested parties in attendance have had an opportunity to offer comment.

Upon the close of the Public Hearing, a meeting of the Manitowish Waters Planning Commission shall be called to order and action taken on the language amendments as per the agenda.
