Crews to complete repairs at Rest Lake Dam before completing refill of reservoir
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (May 16, 2023) – As a preventive measure last fall, crews repaired an aging underground pipe on the upstream side of the Rest Lake dam that was beginning to show signs of deterioration. This spring, in consultation with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and after the seasonal refilling of the Rest Lake reservoir began, a decision was made to temporarily pause the process to make additional repairs at the dam.
Currently, the reservoir’s elevation is approximately 7-foot and crews intend to maintain this level until the repairs can be made, which are expected by the end of May. At that point, normal refilling can resume, gradually reaching up to the full 8-foot-6-inch level.
Lakeshore homeowners and recreational users should be aware of the reduced lake levels and should have a plan in place for docking their boats and navigating the Manitowish Chain.
The dam owners, which include Xcel Energy, are committed to the safety and long-term integrity of the Rest Lake Dam and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the local community and stakeholders during this maintenance period.
